Service Control Manager Windows 2000

By tmway ·
I have an error in the event viewer from the service control manager that states "The VPCTCOM service failed to start due to the following error:Cannot create a file when that file already exists". Can someone help me out? This is a windows 2000 machine with 512MB of RAM and a 1 Gig processor. It has a modem that I think is causing the problem. I loaded the 2000 drivers for it.

Maybe a LOG file is your problem!
Try to check PERMISSIONS on the winnt directory or check your modem software directory!

You are right the modem is your problem. Try uninstalling the modem from Device Manager, re-boot Windows and re-install the modem using the Windows 2000 drivers.

See if that does the trick.
