Locked

Service Database is locked.

By aschulz ·
I just discoved that I cannot modify any of my NT service properties (ie. change auto to manual or ownership). I get a message that says the Service Database is Locked. There are no errors in the event log. This may have happened when I updated the NIC drivers a couple months ago. The server is an HP Netserver running NT4 SP5 and SQL 7.0.
How can I unlock the service database?

This message comes up while services are still starting. One of your services may be hung and the service databse is never relaeased becasue that service never finished starting. Check the URL below and you might be able to fix it by editing the registry:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q214/7/62.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0

The toughest part will be finding out what service is causing the problem. Maybe there is some a HP Openview service or something that got installed with the NIC drivers?
