I have several rugged notebooks that I have mounted on some forklifts. There are scanners on each of these PCs. The scanners are connected to the PCs using the serial ports (Since there are no PS2 ports on the things) In order for the scanners to work serial keys has to be enabled in XP. The problem is that when you enable it and then make sure that the check boxes for both Apply to all settings are checked and then make sure that you disable fast user switching the thing cuts off after you reboot. Serial keys is a service in XP and the service times out. If you go in and start it manually it takes maybe two times and then it will start. I have tried telling the service to retry after the 1st 2nd and 3rd failed attempts and that did not help. This is starting to get on my last nerve. I have loaded SP1 on them to no benefit.
Any solutions?
