    Set up Lan-to-Lan connection

    Locked

    by pricepd ·

I have a 3Com remote access server 1500. I am trying to use it to connect Lan-to-Lan over regular phone lines (I know it is very slow, but our users just need to copy file once and a while). I have a domain at the satilite office on NT 4.0. The home office is Win 2000 server. The RAS 1500 is at the home office. I have configured the RAS for a lan-to-lan conncetion (it does have that capability), but I am not sure it is right. I have set up an NT 4.0 server at the satilite office end with a 56K modem. (I am not sure if I have the NT 4.0 Server set up correctly to recieve and route the calls.

Basically I need to know how to make this work.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

With this config, I would be tempted to ignore the ras 1500 (i don’t know what it is 🙂 ) and simply install RRAS and a modem on the 2k server, and the nt server (from some option pack or other if i remember rightly)… set it up for a demand dial connection between the two – this should allow all clients on both sides to connect at will (with a short auth delay).

Thanks for the reply, however this solution will not work for me at this time because I don’t want to have to install a new phone line to connect to the server.

        Thanks

Easiest way to manage the connection between these 2 for just occasion file sharing is Norton/Symantec PC AnyWhere.

You will not need to manage the RAS settings of either end as this software will set it up for you easily as long as the hardware is installed correctly.
