Set up personal save area on win2k

By bergerd ·
I want to setup user save areas on win2k, and I want my users to only see their save area when they go thru explorer. When I setup accts now users can see everyones names in explorer.

Set up personal save area on win2k

You can add "$" sign to the end of share name and so make share "invisible".

For example:
Create directory "Users". Create Subdirectory for each user. Share Subdirectory of each user with "$" at the end, like this:

Users\John shared as John$Users\Jane shared as Jane$

etc

Permissions are another story. Set permissions so that only assigned user can read or write to this subdirectory.
You can do this thru share level permissions and NTFS permissions, but be aware that the effective permission is the combination of these two permissions.
