set USB sound cards as primary sound cards

By Jamie_doherty07 ·
I was woundering if anyone can tell me/if there is a way of setting a USB sound card as the primary Sound card, I want it to be the main audio ouput because my internal sound card is rubbish, I dont mind if the sound doesn't come out the speaker because I wear headphones all the time plus laptop speaker sound crap.

Just go to the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' within Control Panel, then allocate the external USB sound card as the device to enable.

You'll have to disable the onboard sound chip by the same method, otherwise you'll get bleed-over from two simultaneous sound signals.

HOWEVER: I'd be interested to know why you think the onboard sound to be crap. Most laptops produce excellent sound, albeit that their default speakers can sound rather tinny.

Perhaps you didn't set up the sound-mixer properly or maybe your sound drivers could do with an update.

What make and model of laptop do you have?
