Set viewed detail columns for multiple folders based on criteria?

By secretkept ·
Greetings All,

A question for the collective,

Any aware of a way to set multiple folder detail fields based criteria you specify or a target folder as an exemplar?

With the ever growing trend of data collection and retention it would be nice to view pertinent information of files located in folders of the same type of data. Possible applications of this would be to set details for folders holding pictures in different locations or even audio files in varying locations. The templates provided in the Customize Tab of a folder's properties doesnt always fit exactly what you need.

Thank you all in advance and Best Regards,
Secrets R. Kept

Perhaps rather than customizing Windows folder view ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Set viewed detail columns ...

You could employ the use of a custom-built program designed for that exact purpose.

The very fact that you are using a computer opens up all manner of possibilities to use 3rd party bespoke programs. Windows should not be considered as the be-all and end-all, rather as a platform to move up from.

These programs need not involve any cost on you part since many are FREE.

For audio files, try Winamp. It's database capabilities can be viewed in terms of filename, filepath, song title, all songs by same singer/group, most listened to, most recently played, least played, never played, and many more that can be customized by the user.

For image files try Picasa. It can import details of images from all internal and external hard drives and removable media. You end up with an unending scrollable whiteboard, filled with mini-images which can then be automatically or manually configured into whichever layout you favour and also be edited, resized, colour corrected as you see fit. Furthermore you can email individual or selections of images directly from Picasa.

Microsoft would have you believe their products are all-capable / all-inclusive, but that is not necessarily true.

programs for each type of file stored isnt the answer

by secretkept In reply to Perhaps rather than custo ...

Using 3rd party programs each and every time i have a series of files in a location i wish to view their details is not the answer. I would find that i'd have to install dozens of programs to view just a hand full of details.

Instead being able to customize the details for highlighted folders would immediately illeviate and problems i would have with installing those dozens of programs.

Again i re-state my question, anyone aware of such a modification or ability directly?

See if this helps

By default, Windows Explorer will remember your view settings for 400 views.
<br><br>
After that it's "catch as catch can" . To reset and change the memory to 1000 views, do this:
<br><br>

1)Delete the following two keys:
<br><br>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU and
<br><br>

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags
<br><br>

2) Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
<br><br>
and add a DWORD named BagMRU Size
<br><br>

and give it a value of 000003e8
<br><br>
Then navigate to :-
<br><br>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam
<br><br>
make a DWORD named BagMRU Size
<br><br>
and give it a value of 000003e8
<br><br>
