Setting Path for all users

By mmusaali ·
I am a Visual BASIC developer. I have developed an application which have some Active x controls which look to a database file for licensing authorisation. I have installed it on a windows 2000 machine with administrative account. When I log in as another user, the application does not work because it does not get the path for the database. So I go to the My Computer-> Properties->Advanced->Environment Variables->System variables and set the Path= '\servername\database file name'. Now it works for this user. I have to do it for all users. Is there any way where I could put this path for all users ? For example setting the Path for the whole machine. One sloution which I have in mind is to write a script which should run as a batch file andset the path as a user gets logged in. But I want to know any way other than the script.

Setting Path for all users

You could log in and copy the working profile to the default user profile, then when anyone else logs on it will copy info off the default profile.

kind of long process
Right click on my computer - properties
Click User Profiles tab
Select theworking profile then click Copy To
Click browse and go to C:\documents and settings\All Users (might say default user)
Click OK
At the bottom there is a section for permissions. Click Change.
Select the Everyone Group from the list.
Are you sure you want to continue - yes
Click ok and it will copy the profile settings
Now log off and log on as a different user.
If the user has already logged on to the machine you will have to either manually set it or **** away their profile.

Good luck
cp

What I did was that I gave the path in the autoexec.bat and it started working fine. No need of any copying the profiles at all. Anyway thanks for the help.
