Setting up LPT2 using NET USE

By Swampdoc ·
I have 2 XPpro machine on a LAN sharing printers. I need to map the printer on one to LPT2 on the other. I have the user type: NET USE LPT2 \\123456\counter and he gets the following error: The network resource type is not correct. Now I have donethis at other places, and it has worked fine. Any thoughts?

Based on our NT logon script for mapped printers, I would use

NET USE LPT2: \\123456\counter

Note the : after the LPT2

The message "Network resource type is not correct" means that the share name "Counter" is not correct.

From the command prompt, type in
NET VIEW \\123456

This will give you the available resources for that computer. Use the listed printer share name in your command line.
