Setting up policies

By Matthew Hansel ·
I have another customer running Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0 w/ Citrix MetaFrame 1.8. They are on a stand alone server (the only server at their office) and I need to setup policies on their system. Now, I have gotten into POLEDIT and set the policies up that I want, but cannot get them to take effect. What am I missing? Where do I have to put the NTCONFIG.POL file? Please help.

Setting up policies

I set up a pol file on a win98 machine and think this may help. There is a section in the pol file for default computer, section network - system policies update - remote update. By default this is set to update mode automatic, which means it will look in the netlogon folder on an NT server and parse the pol file located there if the name of the file is config.pol. It must be called config.pol for this to work. If this fails try opening system policy editor in registry mode and change the section for remote update as mentioned above, to manual and enter the path and file name of the *.pol file. Save it and then reboot for it to take effect in the reg. Hope this helps.

the file must be named ntconfig.pol. you have to place it into the netlogon-share on your domain controllers.

good luck
