Setting up printer for 98 as well as NT

By pete_may ·
I have an NT4 network with a PDC and a BDC both acting as print servers. All the printers are successfully on both computers but 98 machines cannot see a laserjet 4000. On both computers it has 95 drivers installed. On the BDC it has the 98 driversfrom HP. They are configered for the right print device. Both PDC and BDC have SP 5. Win 98 can see every other printer on the two print servers but the LaserJet 4000 is the only printer on that floor and it's the only floor with 98 clients. I can'tthink of anything else to check
Yours in hope and desperation

Setting up printer for 98 as well as NT

by Don Christner In reply to Setting up printer for 98 ...

Have you checked your sharing (on the server) to make sure that the 98 machines have perms to the LJ4000? Why do you have the 95 drivers installed when your users are using 98? You can also install the 98 drivers on the servers. If all else fails, install the LJ4000 as a local printer and then change the port to the server.

Good luck,
Don

Check several things:

#1 - Share name and length of share name for the printer. If the share name is longer than 8 characters, shorten it to 8 and see if this resolves the issue.

#2 - Check the security on the printer as well. Doubtful but possible.

Shortened share name to 6 charecters and works. All other printers in network have share names longer than 8 with no problem
