setting up virtual containers in AD

By mark ·

I have multiple Active Directory servers, each with a seperate domain with trusts setup between them.

I have a 3rd party device that needs to perform and Ldap import of all the users from all the servers. The 3rd party device only allows configuration of 1 Ldap query. I have seen several references to 'Virtual Containers' and I think these might do what I need.

As far as I can see, Virtual Conatiners are setup with Ldap information and when a client's query result contains that container, the server will perform it's own Ldap query to a 2nd server and include those results with it's own results in the reply to the client.

I can't find any information on how to set these up. Several books mention them but I can't find any that say how to do it. Could anyone give me some pointers?

Thanks in advance,

What you need to do is open Active Directory Users and Computers and open the OU of your choice rigt click and New Shared Folder. Give it a name and the UNC path and thats your virtual dir. To Access it go in to The Directory using network using My Network Places.
