Setting Win xp wallpaper !!

By edmond_sng ·
Hi

My Windows XP pro becomes very unstable everytime I tried to set the desktop wallpaper by browsing to my picture files.

The hard disk just make a very funny clicking noise and then blue screen. The message is check the hardware and also bios memory shadowing.

How do I fix this problem?

Please advise

My first guess is that your picture files are too large for your available system resources.

Are your picture files larger than 250MB?

If so, try opening 1 in an image editor and setting the resolution down to what you have your display settings set to.

Save the modified image under a new name.

How much RAM and free hard drive space do you have?

For XP, my minimum is 256MB of RAM and 1GB of free hard drive space.

A fixed size page file that is too small can also cause this kind of problem.

In my opinion, a fixed size page file should never be less than 1GB - system RAM.
As long as you have the free hard drive space, allowing the page file to use up to 2GB should not cause any problems.

Otherwise, check for Windows compatibility updates and new versions of drivers for your motherboard and video card.
