Do I have to create an SMTP connection or
    > anything?? To clarify lets say my company email is ‘Jmed’ and everyone gets mail from it, I want to create another email call ‘totempole.com’ using the same IP address and have the 3 users get mail from that only. How can this be accomplished??

Not entirely sure of your setup. It sounds as if you have a domain and one e-mail account.

If that is the case, you can create other e-mail accounts from the one and essentially setup an e-mail server … but you will need software designed around this.

This software works and I’ve recommend it (and set it up) for many small businesses:

If you want to create another domain with a single separate e-mail account, then we’re talking something else though. You’d have to be like a Server Farm, and you’d need more sophisticated software to maiage e-mail on the same ip (if it’s even possible).

Another alternative would be for each of the domains to have their own e-mail server software (as above) managers.

      Assumption: Exchange 5.5

      1. Add a MX record in the DNS for the new domain. Point it to the existing IP Address. (May need to talk with your ISP abou this. If the domain does not exist in the DNS, they will need to create a new zone for it along with the MX record)
      2. Add the new address as a secondary proxy address (see Technet for various artciles for how to’s & troubleshooting, search by secondary proxy ) you can change the default for everyone via the Exchange Admin program. Configuration Container, Site Addressing object, site addressing tab – you can change the default SMTP address for all accounts in the site here.
      3. Make sure to add the new domain entry to your IMC/IMS Routing table as a INBOUND domain, otherwise the system may reject it. Exchange Admin, Configuration Container, Connections.

      Good luck

      Rick

Thanks for all the responses to my question. I have had my ISP setup another MX record and pointed to my ip address and config it all in DNS so my 2 users are able to recieve/reply to emails from the link.
