    Setup password

    Locked

    by smckeen70 ·

I bought a used Compaq Deskpro EN series from a company shutting down. Someone had set a password for the setup. How can I get rid of this password? I have no way of contacting the previous owners….Help?

Do you mean the CMOS setup? If so, there may be a jumper on the motherboard near the CMOS chip; pulling it will restore the default values and remove password. So will pulling the CMOS battery.

AsyscoKid is correct. There is a jumper on the system board to disable the passwords. Look on the inside of the case cover and there will be a diagram showing the jumpers names, locations, and settings. Just change the appropiate jumper. If you are still not sure after reviewing the diagram, call Compaq’s technical support at 1-800-652-6672 and they will help you.

its right that you will find a jumper to clear the password. but ensure whether you are doing with the right one and not meddling with other jumpers.

better check with the motherboard manual before doing with jumpers.

my advice would be, remove the cmos battery (lithium battery) and switch on the system till the RAM Check Completes. now put the battery in its position and switch on the system.

This process will clear the setup(CMOS)password.
