By Enrique Corona ·
i am working on a domain with win2k(controller).
we need to disable the file sharing on some areas but we need the c$ to be working due to pc support.

so i think we cant just disable the computer browser service or server service,,, any ideas_?

Windows NT, 2000, and XP Pro have the C$ Administrator share enabled by default. Even if you have file & printer sharing disabled you will still be able to access \\computer\c$
If you disable the "Server" service that will NOT allow you to access any share including \\computer\c$
What you need to do is set permissions on your shares, which computers and users have access to what shares. Are you currently using AD? Do you know how to change permissions, add/remove users to a share? If not post back or PM and I will give you instructions...

we need to set a policy to disable the share files option so they cant share files on their system. i dont know if i am making my self clear, let me know if you need more deteiled info. thanks!
