Share Printer

NT4 network with PDC and BDC. Workstations are W98. I have a printer on one W98 machine I want to share with the other workstations. I have installed the printer to the sharing machine and printed out a test page successfully. Have turned on printersharing. Went through add printer on client machine. Selected network printer from network neighborhood. Files loaded automatically and printer installed on client. Everything seems right, except it will not print from the client. I have done this many times before with no problem. Suggestions. Thank you in advance.

You have to connect the printer to(printer server)than to HUB,So you have network printer.and you do not have to cennect this printer directly to that pc client.

Thank you for your answer. However, maybe I wasn't clear enough. The printer is connected to a Win98 machine that is on a Win NT domain. I want to share that printer over the domain. I have installed to other Win98 computers, but cannot print from there. This is not the same as a network printer that is plugged into the network. The printer does not have a network port, only a parallel port.

Thanks again for your answer.

You have installed a printer directly to a win98 computer. You have shared the printer on this computer and in the printer properties, you see a hand under the printer (signifying that the printer is shared). You want another computer (Computer 2) to printer to this printer.

Computer 2 has the printer drivers installed. On computer 2, you need to make sure that it can see the computer with the printer. If it can see the original computer, then go to the printer properties and make surethat the port is pointing to the other computer.

The printer should be installed on Computer 2 as a network printer and point to the computer that is sharing that printer. This pointing to the other computer is done in the printer --> Properties --> port section.

Thank you for your answer. I have done everything you mentioned. The printer just does not print the test page to complete the install. Actually, you said what I did better than I did. Thanks.

just curious, did you happen to shared and checked the permission settings of the printer on the host computer?

The host computer is W98. I don't know of permissions for shared printers on W98 except for passwords.
