Shared directory pemissions

By surveymaster.shivaram ·
We are planning to rename our file server. We have 20 shared directories on this server. If I rename the server what is the affect on these shared sirectories. Is these shared directories still remains as earlier permissions. Please advice me.
Thanks

If you are mapping drives via a login script to these directories you will need to change the scripts to reflect the servers new NetBios name. If users have just mapped drives themselves they will need to remap them to the new server name. As longas permissions are assigned via domain accounts and not local accounts they will stay the same.

don't forget to check your WINS and DNS to make sure that the server is properly registered.
