Go and buy a LINKSYS EtherFast 4-Port Cable Router. It's a hub, router, firewall and DHCP server. With the product, I set up my home network in 10 minutes.

For details, please go to,

Thank you , however , I have a 4 port hub running my network. My cable nodem is not , however , connected directly into the hub but is on the network via the internet sharing protocol.

So, which connection is dropping the network or the modem? Is your wife losing internet connection while at the same time you are still able to access the internet? If you are putting a heavy load on the connection, hers could be timing out. Is this the case?

My wife's connection drops out all the time. my laptop has the PCMCIA conntection to the cable modem and it drops out only sometimes. The connection becomes a lot more stable whaen I disable the internet connection sharing protocol but then of course my wife can not access the net.

I will give you some checklist for testing the connection:
1. Check the cable and your pcmcia cards.
2. if the cable is fine, try to ping to internet provider's ip.
3. Check your network configurations setting. Make sure that you have the correctsettings.

Thanks but the connection to the network is fine and worked 100% prior to installing internet connection sharing.

If I am reading the question right you have a Laptop sharing the connection?? If that is the case I would make sure that the laptop does not go to sleep. If that is not the case I would make sure that the laptop is not losing the IP address that it's getting from the DHCP server. Try Pinging the card being shared then to try to ping a website of some sort.

If you are connected cable modem to the laptop, how are you connected to the other computer? If the laptop is the proxy what software are you running to do the proxy? I also think the laptop may not have the processing power to be the proxy.

Many unknowns.
