Shared printer not displayed in directory

By kipper_1 ·
Hi,

I have a usb printer connected to my machine which is shared on the network. The OS is XP Pro.

The shared printer has dissapeared from the directory.

I recently unistalled various software from my machine including some software called Desktop Aurthority which uses SQL.

I beleive the uninstallation of this software has maybe modified the policies on the machine.

I have tried fully reinstalling printer/software, checked it is shared etc. I have also used chkdsk /r to repair the o/s with no luck. I have performed a system restore to before the uninstallation of the software with no luck. This restore has caused a number of problems including not being able to search for printers anymore. I have also played around with the local printer policies without luck.

Is there any way of reseting the XP Pro printer policies back to default?

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Many thanks,

Chris.

Out of Sync

Your PCs account on the domain may be out of sync with the domain controller now [computer account password that changes on the backend]. Try joining a workgroup and then back to the domain again.

Many thanks for your reply.

I will try switching to a workgroup and back again tommorow and let you know if I am successful.

I tried to restore the system to before the uninstallation of the software which has resulted in the machine not being able to search for printers. I will fix this problem first.

Thanks,

Chris

Cannot load resource dll: REPLRES.RLL

by kipper_1 In reply to Shared printer not displa ...

Hi,

The machine in question has been put onto a workgroup and back onto the domain. During it's time as a workgroup computer I was able to search for printers.

The machine is now connected to the domain. When I search for a network printer and click on find printer in the directory the following error is displayed:

Cannot load resource dll: REPLRES.RLL

The specified module could not be found.

I beleive this error is related to SQL?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris.

Resolution

by kipper_1 In reply to Shared printer not displa ...

Hi,

Tried to reinstall Desktop Aurthority software containing the SQL installation. This did not complete although installed installed the software. I then uninstalled SQL.

I can now search for printers in the directory and the printer attached to my machine is displayed on my machine and users machines.

Thanks,

Chris.
