HI ALL, I HAVE SHARED A PRINTER IN WIN 98 BUT I CAN NOT ACCESS OR INSTALL SHARED PRINTER WHEN LOGIN TO DOMAIN IN WINDOWS XP BUT IF I LOGIN LOCALLY TO WINDOWS XP I CAN ACCESS OR PRINT FROM THE PRINTER.
WHEND LOGIN FROM DOMAIN IN WINDOWS XP IT SAYS "PRINTER NOT FOUND ON SERVER, UNABLE TO CONNECT " BUT WHEN LOGIGN LOCALLY, I CAN CONNECT TO PRINTER.
OTHER WINDOWS 98 USERS HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH PRITNER, THE PROBLEM IS WITH ALL WINDOWS XP SYSTEM.

Have you try to find the printer in the network?
Try to install giving manually the name of the printer.

You have'to add WIN98 computer names to Active Directoty. Under Computers. Then make sure all WIN98 computers are logging onto DOMAIN.
If this doesn't help, try installing Printer on XP machine and share it.

I agree with Bobsta.

a work arround if winxp is not resolving the printer name, add it by ip address.

create a new printer select local printer then create a tcp/ip port type in the printer ip address.

all of this if the printer has an ip address...
have you disable the windows xp firewall_? remember that winxp sp2 installs a firewall that blocks a bunch of network services.. like the ping for example.

I know it's resurrecting a dead topic, but I have a similar problem. I am using a D-Link DPR-1260 to connect a HP OfficeJet All-in-One 5100 to 4 machines (3 XP Pro, 1 win9 for a special project, which all are connected to the same domain and have no problems sharing files. The 3 XP Pro see the print server and send their jobs fine, but the win 98 has proven a tough nut.

The drivers of the printer work fine in the win98 and it does function properly when connected physically (w/o the server) and I can see the server and the printer when I type the IP of the server in the machine, but I cannot install the printer drivers (even when they are already on the machine) through the server to complete the connection. This is because the server can't find a DLX file (present in Win XP and 2000) it needs, suspending the installation.

I tried looking for the 98 drivers in the HP site, only to find they discontinued ALL 98 drivers since July (swell!). I try to modify te printer's shortcut in the win 98 to point at the server and install the driver provided in the disk, but the ".ini" file provided in the disc is not recognized by the printer wizard in 98 (It doesn't show up in the HP printer list either).

My last maneuver was to to use the connection to the printer from one of the XP Pro's and I ran into the same wizard problem described earlier. I tried switching drivers (XP to win98 driver downgrade) in one of the XP Pro's and it has no problems printing from the XP, but the win 98 doesn't recognize the printer from the XP.

I'm looking fro more options in D-link or other win98 drivers for the printer in the net. Other than that, I'm stumped. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
