Shared Printing In Win2k

By Meridian828 ·
I have rougly 10 computers all running Windows 2000 Pro. I have one setup as the Print server, installed printer and shared it.. when i try to connect any other Windows 2k Pro Computer in that workgroup to the printer I get Access is Denied. Under Power Users. now this confuses me, because i can Add other network printers, Am I just Missing a Step Somewhere? thanks!

Shared Printing In Win2k

First, after sharing the printer, you need to make sure you have valid user accounts for all 9 other users on the print server itself. Then add those accounts to the power users group and allow them to print.

To install the shared printer on each user's computer, first you'll need to log in as the local admin (on each workstation), connect to the print server through My Network Places. It will then autheticate you. Enter your user name and password.

Right click on the printer (if it's shared, it should show up) and choose connect. This will install it on the workstation. Repeat this steps for all workstations.

When you log in as the user, he should have the printer installed.

good luck,
