sharing a hard disk $

How do i share a C:/ on a local PC that is connected to my network in another part of the building.Every time i try this i use this command
\\pc1 $c
All this comand does however is allow me to view the printers installed on that harddisk and not access the files/folders on the drive. I do a lot of work in a large building and it would help me save time if i was able to access the files on the drive remotely
