Sharing a printer

By Frank K ·
Is it possible to share a USB printer. I switched from a parallel printer that worked fine to a USB Lexmark Z53. When printing I get a message saying printer not connected. Host machine has no problem.

W98 SE is the OS on both machines.

It may be that the USB port is blocked from file and printer sharing.
Check your sharing permissions on the host machine.

I have seen a parallel to usb cable, that could be a work-around.

Did you remember to share the new printer? Is there a hand underneath the printer in the printers folder? Click Start, settings, printers. Click on the printer to hilight it then click file and sharing. Make sure that Shared As is enabled. On the computer that is not directly connected to the printer, click start, settings and printers. Click Add Printer and then next. Make sure you select Network Printer on the next screen. Browse to the correct network path of the printer. Sometimes you will have to enter the path manually. You may also need the installation disk.
