Sharing a printer between Unix and Win98

By bhavyadon ·
Hello all,

I would like to know how can I share a single printer between Unix & Win98 OSs.
Both of them use a single Router.

Thanks
Bhavya

Sharing a printer between Unix and Win98

by ckilday In reply to Sharing a printer between ...

We used to have a Spectrum Network Management system that ran on Unix. The rest of our network was Win95/NT. We had an HP printer defined to a print server on the Win95/NT network. We defined the print queue in Unix using the printer's IP address. It worked ok, because we didn't have a lot of Unix printing. The problem with that solution was that the Unix print would take over the printer instead of running through the print server. We had to check the printer first and make sure there wasn't any Windows print coming out before triggering the Unix print. I don't know if we ever tried configuring the Unix box with the right print queue name, but pointing to the ip address of the print server. That might be something to try. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
