Sharing a printer over a network.

By capris ·
I have a HP All-in-One When sharing a printer, I click Add printer -> Network Printer -> Locate the computer to which the printer is connected. Here I get a list of manufacturers and corresponding drivers. My question is, is this list generated by the computer to which the printer is connected or the one from where I am trying to access the printer? I would appreciate if you can provide a supporting document for the answer. Thank you in advance.

The list of manufactures and printers that you see when you start to add ANY printer on a Windows PC is the default printer drivers that are built in to that version of Windows.

Windows does NOT go out to the network and look for a printer until you have chosen the printer you wish to install.

The next step is to go out on the network and locate the specific computer with the printer you are installing.

I recommend that you use either the CD for the printer, or download the latest driver from HP.

As a side note, for all-in-one machines, you usually only have the printer functions available from remote PCs.
