sharing a printer

By jdold52 ·
I just recently switched my internet service to broadband. I bought a router with a 4-port switch, and connected 3 PC's in my house to it, to share the broadband. My question is, how to I set up my printer connected to my main PC so that everyone can share it? All PC's running Windows XP. Thanks.

First assure that all computers are in the same workgroup. Share the printer on the system it is connected to and allow all users to use it. Add the printer to the other computers using the "Add Printer" under "Printers". This will be installed as a network printer and you should be able to browse to see the printer you wish to have added to the computer's installed printers. Should you need any other help, feel free to email me and you can post the solution for others, provided I solve your problem.

I hope this helps

First SHARE your printer in your main PC, to do this, right-click in your Network Places and select Properties, do the same in your Local Area Connection then be sure that your File and Printer Sharing is selected (checked). Go to your Program menu and select Printers and Faxes, right-click in your printer and select Sharing. Share your Printer and do PCTech suggestions. Hopin' this helps...

Windows XP has a pretty thorough step by step guide in it's Help & Support. Just click START - HELP & SUPPORT and type SHARE PRINTER in the search box. Having Windows XP on all the computers will make the task very easy.
