Sharing and Security on removable drive

i have windows xp pro and i share files and folders on that perticular drive which is a usb hard drive. soo whenever i remove the drive the sharing and permsion go away i have to set them again whenever i remove the hard drive and then back in again which is tidious for me is there a way where it can stay permanantly.
