Sharing Applications on Win XP

By Lo ·
I recently installed Win XP Pro on my home PC (fresh install, was using Win NT 4.0, new to XP).

I created an Admin account (Administrator didn't seem to allow me login access). I used the Admin account to install MS Office and other such products. I created a personal account for me (with admin privs). I created other accounts (user type) for wife, etc. The User level accounts were not able to see / use MS Word and other such applications.

I granted them Admin to get past the problem as a short term solutiion.

What do I need to do to give them access from a user level?

Under what topic(s) would one search in Win XP help to find a soltuion to this question?

thx, lo

The best way to fix this profile problem would be to make sure everything works under the admin profile you installed them under first. Open the system applet in control panel the advance/userprofiles/settings delete the profiles that don't work. Click on the profile that you checked out and click the copy to button browse to C:Documents and settings/default user. Say OK. If the default user isn't shown there you have to go to folder options in windows explorer and enable show hidden files. When the same people log in now their profile should be identical to the admin one you created.

Thanks for reply. I will have to try that when I am feeling brave and have some time.
