Sharing External USB Hard Drive

By nicolasavru ·
I am trying to enable sharing on an external hard drive connected to one computer via usb so it can be acessed by any othe rcomputer on the network. Both computers are using Windows XP Home and I have sharing enabled, windows firewall disabled, workrgoup set up, permissions set up via safe mode, and even tried sharing a subfolder on the drive instead of the drive itself. For some reason that I cannot determine, whenever I try to access the drive in question from another computer, i get the following error message:
(name of drive) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I have found a similar issue on this site (http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-11186-0.html?forumID=46&threadID=194653), but unfortunatly the solutions that were posted there did not work for me.

It should also be noted that i have both image backups and file-by-file backups on that drive, including the windows folder from my main drive. I do not know if this changes anything or not, but there might be seomthing with Windows that is not letting me share a drive with those folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but your problem is the XP Home edition. For this you need XP prof. SP2

Shoot me a PM and I'll reply with my PDF. There is a workaround to XP Home's forced Simple File Sharing.
