Sharing files between my two computers?

If both computers have network interface cards, you would need to Cat 5 cables and a hub. Otherwise, you could get a null modem cable and connect it to the serial ports of each computer. That covers the hardware portion. As for software, the networking solution would require Microsoft peer-to-peer networking (NetBEUI) and file sharing, both of which come with Windows and are enabled through the networking tab on the control panel. The null modem option would require Microsoft Direct Cable Connection, a communication applet installed through the windows setup feature of add/remove programs in the control panel.

2 network adapters (one in each computer)
a cross over cable

Then you need to setup networking in the computers. tcp/ip addresses 192.168.1.1 for one computer (255.255.255.0 subnet mask) ; and address 192.168.1.2 for the second computer (same subnet mask). Setup file and printer sharing on both computers.

Make sure both computers have the same workgroup and then use windows explorer to right click on drives/folders you wish to share.

You should be good to go then.

if they both have USB connecters on it you could get a special usb cable to share files like a "nul modem cable" check out www.usbtown.com for the equipment.

This would be cheaper than buying 2 nic cards and cross over cable or hub configuration.

dale.larder is correct.

But if you can't get the applet he's talking about, you can transfer individual files by using hyperterminal or any other terminal emulation program.
