Sharing Files/Printers w/ 2 XP machines?

By lt1transamgt ·
I have a small network with 2 XP Home edition machines and they are sharing a cable modem through a linksys cable/dsl router. My problem is one machine can see the files and printers on the second machine but the second machine can't see the workgroup or files on the first machine. Both are in the same workgroup. Is there something that I am forgetting to do? I even tried the network setup disk and that didnt help either. Please let me know what the problem can be. Thank you.

Make sure that netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on the network connection.

Also disable the inbuilt XP firewall if its installed while testing.

Lastly, can you ping the other machine from the command prompt and whan happens when you try and connect to the other PC. What are the error messages?

Did you install "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks" in your network connections for the PC you cannot access?
