sharing folders&internet between 2000&98

by sleeper . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

2 computers: one is 98se, and the other is a Compaq portable running 2000. The desktop has a 10/100 Mb 3com NIC, the portable has a built in intel 10/100 minipci NIC. I have a cable connection to internet, which I’ve put into a 3com 8-port 10/100 hub, also the 2 pc’s are in this hub.
Both pc’s have networking installed (file&print sharing, client for MS networks) and have several shared (full control everyone) folders, both pc’s have the same workgroup name
Problem1: the 2 pc’s don’t see achother in network neighbourhood
problem2:I can use the cable internet connection on only one pc at the time, how can I use the cable Internet on both pc’s at the same time?
Note: changing the 10/100 NIC’s to fix 10 or fix 100 doesn’t help
How can Isolve the above the easiest way?
Would upgrading the 98 to 2000 be the best solution?
