Sharing Google Play apps/games on Amazon tablet child profile
Lockedby jaa042464 · about 1 year, 7 months ago
Hello. I recently installed Google Play on an Amazon Fire 10 Generation 9 tablet with OS 7.3.2.7. There is a child profile established on the tablet, as well as an adult profile and parental control. I would like to know if there is a way that Google Play or any of the apps/games downloaded from Google Play can be shared with the child profile on this Amazon tablet. Thank you. John

I suggest that you reach out to Amazon support directly.

Thanks, but the reason I posted the question here is because downloading Google Play on an Amazon tablet is not a supported practice by Amazon.

You’ll be on your own every step of the way.
I can’t see how Amazon’s profile could be expected to control this.
Yes, the Amazon tablets are cheaper than most Android tablets but if you want the real deal, you’ll need the real deal.

Thanks. I wasn’t expecting the child profile to control it, rather whether the app could be accessible or viewed on the child profile. Right now, it is not. Yes, I understand I’m on my own. That’s why I posted the issue on TechRepublic instead of checking with Amazon.

I don’t see this as a bug.

Or an error on Amazon or Google’s part here. It may or may not work.
The fix is likely to be “get an Android tablet.”

It’s not a bug or an error, but I’m asking for help from someone who might know how to work around this issue. It’s not illegal and it’s very common for people to download Google Play on an Amazon tablet. Thanks for trying.

Maybe Reddit?

Try a bigger audience. To me the fix is an Android tablet or maybe forget about profiles and see if it works normally without parental/child controls.

Okay, thanks. My issue is whether or not Google Play ( or apps downloaded from it ) may be made available for use while the tablet is switched to the child profile. I already know that Google Play and it’s downloaded apps both function fine while switched to the adult profile or without a child profile established on the tablet.

Is the app functioning on a child’s profile on a normal Android tablet or phone?
Maybe the app just doesn’t like such restrictions?

Hello John! It’s great that you were able to install Google Play on your Amazon Fire 10 tablet.
Regarding your question, by default, apps installed from Google Play are only accessible from the profile where they were installed. This means that apps installed in the adult profile will not be automatically available in the child profile.
However, you can allow apps downloaded from Google Play to be shared with the child profile by following these steps:
From the adult profile, go to Settings > Profiles & Family Library > Add a Child Profile.
Follow the prompts to set up the child profile.
From the child profile, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the user icon.
Tap the adult profile to switch to it.
Open Google Play and download the apps you want to share with the child profile.
After downloading the apps, go to Settings > Profiles & Family Library from the adult profile.
Under “Your family,” tap the child profile you want to share the app with.
Toggle on the switch next to “Share downloaded apps with this family member.”
Once you’ve completed these steps, the apps you downloaded from Google Play will be available in the child profile. It’s worth noting that not all apps may be suitable for children, so it’s important to review each app’s content and age rating before sharing it with the child profile. Additionally, parental controls can be set up to restrict certain apps and content for the child profile.

Thanks. I assume your instructions were for the Amazon settings, and not the similar settings in Google Play. If so, I don’t have a “Your Family” option in “Profiles & Family Library”. Instead I have in the child profile( “Manage this Child’s Amazon Experience” ) an option to “Add Content”, in which one may share apps/games/etc. with the child profile. However, that option will only make those apps/games/etc. that were purchased via the Amazon App Store available for sharing with the child profile. That’s the essence of my problem, however, and you were on the right track.
I have a Fire 10 Generation 9 tablet with OS 7.3.2.7., so there may have been changes incorporated into this tablet and OS which may now prevent this type of sharing of Google apps with an Amazon child profile……I don’t know.
Thank you again for your suggestion. john

Thanks. If I understand your comment, someone in another forum made a similar suggestion. It’s the second question, with my answer, below:
” Did you notice if Google Play or any of its games were listed when you try adding it from Child Profile settings > Manage Your Child’s Content > Add Content > Share Content > Games & Apps?” – They are not listed and I cannot add them because they weren’t purchased/downloaded from Amazon AppStore. If they were listed, I’d likely be able to share them with the child profile. this is the essence of my problem.
“The Child Profile is treated as a separate device. Could you add it to the Child Profile the same way you added it to the Adult Profile from Add Websites in the Child Profile settings? ” I thought this was a good idea and worth a shot. I tried adding it to Child Profile logical partition. After jumping through some some hoops trying to download the four necessary files from the web, I found that the inherent restrictions of the child profile prevented the downloads to process properly on the Amazon tablet. I then tried another method to create Google Play on an Amazon tablet – by downloading Fire Toolbox V30-3 on my PC and connecting the tablet to the PC in order execute Toolbox and create the necessary files on the tablet. However, although my PC recognized the tablet device, Toolbox did not. I tried first while using the child profile on the tablet, then again while using the adult profile, with same result. I’ve ordered a new tablet charging/transfer cable thinking my wire could be the problem. It’s in the mail, but I’ll let you how how everything goes after I receive it.

Update: Well, it wasn’t the charging cable that was the problem. It’s the fact that Amazon won’t allow “USB debugging” on a child profile, which must be on in order to run Toolbox. That’s it. I’m finished, unless anyone has other suggestions. As far as I’m concerned, Google Play cannot be installed onto the child profile of an Amazon Tablet, nor can an Amazon adult profile share content (with a child profile) that was not downloaded from the Amazon AppStore. It seems Amazon has the bases covered on this one.
