I’m trying to share Internet access with two PCs and one cable modem. The two PCs are connected to an ethernet hub and the cable modem is connected to the same hub on the uplink port. When the first PC boots, I can get a dhcp address and access the internet without problems. However, when the second PC boots, it times out trying to get a dhcp address, gets the default address from Win2k (169.X.X.X) and cannot access the inet. The management software for the cable modem only shows the one PCconnected. I have heard that I should be able to share the modem with several computers using the configuration I’ve built with the LAN. The hub seems to be working fine as I can ping the PCs locally. I don’t think there is a configuration changeon the cable modem (at least that’s what the vendor said). Does anyone know what may be the problem?
