Sharing my lap top's wirless internet connection with my desk top

By ellisvernon ·
I have a lap top that gets free wireless internet from the city. I want to use my lap top's wirless connection to connect my desk top to the internet.
My OS on the lap top is XP. My OS on the desk top is Vista.

Well ...

It'll be a bit of a fiddle, and that's on a good day.

If both systems were running XP, you'd have to invoke then set-up a Wireless Bridge, which involves a tedious muck-around with your IP numbers and the M$ Network Wizard.

Add to this the subtle ingredient of VISTA, and you have a bouillabaisse of gargantuan proportions IMHO.

You'd probably be better just to fit a PCI wireless adaptor to the desktop machine. :)

If your desktop runs Vista, chances are good that it has a built-in wireless chip. If so, you need only run the Vista wireless connection wizard.

If no built-in wireless chip, you can save yourself the small hassle of adding an adapter card to the extension slot by obtaining a USB wireless adapter:
