sharing Win98se Hard drive?

By pchlp ·
I have a computer on a network with Win98se but I cannot share the hard drive. There is no feature when I right click the C: drive.
How do I share it? Is there a update for this?
Thanks in advance

You first need to enable file and printer sharing.

Control Panel / Networks

Click on the File and printer sharing button.

Follow the prompts, and set up file sharing as desired.

If you have a firewall running this too can stop sharing.

Click on the Windows Start button.
Choose settings and then Control Panel.
Dobbelclick on the Network ikon.
Click the "File and Print Sharing..." button.
Click in the box next to "I want to be able to give others access to my files."
Click OKand follow the on screen requests. These end with a reboot of your computer.
Now when you right click C: you get a new menu item "Sharing.."
You can share folders or drives. To keep your computer save. Don't just share C:. Choose only the folders with information you wanna share. To further secure your PC, you can put a $ sign after the share name. This will render the shared folder invisible. The only way to connect to it is knowing the share name, including the $. If the other PC('s) don't have to write in the folder, don't give FULL ACCESS to that folder. You don't have to surply a password, but it's a good idea.
When you done setting up the share click OK ;-)

To connect to the share use "Map Network Drive..." in the Tools menu inwindows explorer. In the path box your need to write the complete share path: \\NameOfYourComputerWithTheShare\ShareName
For me that could be something like: \\TheLion\Download$

If you havn't put $ in the end, you can find the share in windows explorer under "Network Neightborhood".

You can map a drive with the dos command NET:
Net use F: \\Thelion\download$ password
This way you can map a folder on a shared computer each time windows starts. Simply by making a shortcut to a batch filecontaining a Net command.
