Shell lockup in KDE 2.2

By Mike O ·
I'm getting a weird issue running Red Hat 7.2 w/2.2.14 and KDE 2.2. Several times while bringing up a Shell terminal using the provided icon in the KDE desktop, it will sort of lock up.

I say sort of because while I cannot Quit or close it, I canstill use it. I basically have to log out to get rid of it. And when I log out, I get invalid window or bad window messages.

Any ideas?

Take care,
Mike

Shell lockup in KDE 2.2

"Bad window" errors are caused by X applications which reference a window ID that no longer exists.

Most X-based terminals set an environment variable called "WINDOWID" which holds the ID of the X window for that terminal. As a temporary workaround, you could put this in your .bash_logout:

[ "x$WINDOWID" != "x" ] && xkill -id $WINDOWID

Either that, or use a more well-behaved terminal emulator. :-)
