Shift Active directory server to another.

Dear All, I have a 1 domain named 123.com, 200-250 users are inn this domain. Now i want to shift 123.com domain on new server without disturbing user profile and login information. How can i? I take bkup from ntbackup tool and restore it in another server but error come "Trust relationship between this worksatation and primary domain failed." After that I manually configured domain as same as old. but when user logs in they got error as username and password is incorrect, Now i take workstation in workgroup and again in domain. login as same user but new profile created. I fedup of this issue..... can u tell me how to shift whole server(with AD service) to another without intrupting user logins and profile. Amit

You need to have the second server built and ready to go as a member server in the domain.
Next you will run a DCPROMO on the new server to make it a DC. This may require you to run ADPREP depending on the OS and Schema level that you are on.

Once the new server is a DC you will make it a Global Catalog server and transfer the FSMO roles to this box.
Let the 2 servers work together for a couple of days if you can to make sure that thre are no other errors with AD. At this point you will want to make sure that any mappings you use that point to the old server are moved to point to the new one, such as profile mappings and printers.

TEST, TEST, TEST.

Now demote the old server using DCPROMO and test some more.

You should be fine. Using this method doesn't require you do do anything with changing server setting because you put an old backup on a different set of newer hardware.
