Shift key on NB causes curser to move up or down

By kcd ·
A new NB has a strange issue when trying to capitalize, the curser moves from it's position. Quite annowing to the user and is reported as random. Hit the shift key and the curser jumps? Freaky..any thoughts. Running XP Pro, 4 gigs ram and happens in most apps.

Defective keyboard and/or pointer device?

Mine does that all the time, but it's because I hit that stupid touch pad when typing accidentally.

You could always re-install the driver..

Try to re-install the driver from the disk(s).
Or go into "device manager" and right click on the keyboard and select "update drivers > browse computer for drivers", and then select the drivers from the list. Hope this works for you.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

Have the user invoke the on-screen keyboard.

If the same symptom occurs while using the on-screen keyboard, then the fault is an error in the keyboard interpreter. [Hardware fault]

If not then it's the driver that is intermittently failing. [Software fault]

However, the last time I witnessed this happen, the fault lay in the keyboard sub-membrane and was caused by an unreported liquid spill which the user 'forgot about'.
