Shocking performance from NAS – advice please!

by jon1972 . Updated 13 years, 6 months ago

I have a Thecus N4100+ with four drives configured as RAID 5. I was only getting about 10-12Mbps on both read and write. After suffering this for ages I then went and bought a Synology DiskStation DS411 which is supposed to give a much better performance, but it was about the same with RAID 5. So then I recreated the RAID as 10 but still the same!!

So, two different NAS enclosures, RAID 5 and 10, all the same response.

The NAS and PC are both connected to a Netgear WGR614. Tthis is running as a bridge to another Netgear router which serves as DHCP server and Internet gateway, however the same result occurs whether or not that second router is connected so it’s not that. There is nothing in the WGR614 to set speed/duplex and I get the same result whether the desktop NIC is set to auto or 100/full.

Anyone any advice please??

Cheers!
