Shortcut Arrows

By mike ·
Suddenly(nearly)all the shortcuts on the desk top have aquired the dreaded little arrows in square boxes. Previously I have been able to suppress these through Tweak. Now this does not have any effect. Is there another way to achieve this?

You have been updated by Microsoft.

One of the security updates for W98 replaces shell32.dll with a new version.
There is a 'feature' (bug) in the updated DLL in that it does not allow you to get rid of the arrow on shortcuts.

The only way toget rid of the arrows again, is to go back to the older version of shell32.dll.

You can do this by using the replace a single file option of SFC (system file checker).

Of course, you will open up the security hole that is closed by the new version of the DLL.
