This ONLY applies to W98 and read note at the bottom.

1. Right-click the Desktop, point to New, and select "Shortcut" from the menu that appears.

2. In the "Command line:" text box, enter: "C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE User,ExitWindows" (without the quotes).

3. Click Next.

4. Enter a name for your shortcut.

5. Click Finish.

6. The shortcut will now be created on your desktop.

Important Note: Clicking this shortcut will immediately shut down your computer, without providingShut Down options. Only click this shortcut when you are sure that you want to shut down.

i don't know what version of windows you are using but if you are using windows xp:

right-click on desktop and choose new/shortcut from pop-up menu. browse to <windows directory>\system32\shutdown.exe, click next, name the shortcut and click finish. right click the new shortcut, choose properties. In the target box, add the appropriate command line switch:

-l (log off)
-s (shutdown)
-r (reboot)

note however that shutdown.exe is included with windows xp, and you can ADD it to windows nt 4.0 or windows 2000 via corresponding Resource Kit.

hope this helps.

Refer to answer (1) for details, but the command line I use is;
c:\windows\rundll32.exe c:\windows\system\user.exe,exitwindows
NOTE; leave a space between the two commands.
This works fine on '95, '98 and 'ME
