Should i do an proper CS degree

By Karthikeyan Umapathy ·
Currently i am doing master's degree in Industrial Engineering. But i am more interested in Information technology area. Before this recession and sep 11th, students from Industrial Engineering major was able to join Information technology jobs. Butnow companies doesn't take any of Industrial Engineering major students for IT jobs. But i have all skills, knowledge, concepts and experince to work in IT field. Should i have to do an computer science degree or wait for economic to improve and seehow companies react. If i wait i might lose more time. What would you advise to do?

Charity work

by generalist In reply to Should i do an proper CS ...

You could always work for a charity if you have enough IT skills to do the job. With the massive job cutbacks caused by the September 11th 'enhanced' recession, companies can be picky and ignore IE majors in their search for IT people.

Adding incertifications and additional CS classes would also help. But be prepared to be asked why an IE major is interested in IT if you are not going into the manufacturing side of things.
