    Should I do it???

I have been offered a permanent job in an IT company. They supply IT services to a number of large company’s so they have their fingers in many pies, hopefully this will provide me with the opportunity to learn a huge amount in the next couple of years… the problem is that they have offered me a package that includes a company bonus and a departmental bonus as well as an expense account of 5k per year.

This sounds great but my base salary is lower than I get now and my super will be lower as well.

Should I just go for it?? or are they trying to rip me off by offering a bonus deal… Please keep in mind that I have just bought a house and can’t afford to stuff up..

Have you worked under similar conditions???

BTW. I live in Sydney, Australia.

Hi, notice how your wrote this post. The first thing you mentioned was the opportunity to learn a lot in a short time (2 years or so). Okay, you’re salary may be lower, but look at your tax situation in Australia. Will your taxes decrease? How much can you pool into a 401K or comparable package? Will your company match it? If you can meet your household expenses without feeling pained, it sounds like a position you want in terms of opportunity/growth. If it delivers, you can always move to a new job in say 3 years and the training you get down becomes your leverage then. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks, I have had a good think about this and I am gonna do it.. apparently everyone in the company has the same expense deal so I won’t be alone… and it turns out that I can claim back the outgoing expense at tax time… so here I go on my next journey!! 🙂

Is there anyone else in this company who is compensated the same ? How do they determine the bonus ? Having gotten my degree under the GI Bill I can tell you that education is not cheap. If you are sure that you will learn new technologies that willenhance your employability than go for it.

Yes it would be expensive to put myself through the training courses… they have agreed to mention in my employment contract that they will send me on two courses up to the cost of 5k in my first 12 months… so I think they are genuine…please note that these figures are in Aussie Dollars… so it would be about $2,200 US.

        Thankyou for your help… 🙂
