Yes, for the reasons you say. It won’t damage anything. But it’s up to you if your should ever do it.

I agree that it won’t be a problem. Could extend the useful life of the CPU.

I feel like it would be rather situational. For example if this person in particular purchased an overkill CPU for their daily tasks.

This would be helpful especially if you don’t need it. Unless you are constantly having a large amount of stress and above like 75% CPU usage, it shouldn’t be an issue.

UNDERCLOCKING YOUR CPU

Hi, this is just my personal opinion and own experience in underclocking my own CPU, first you need to learn the basic things in underclocking and what are its benefits and disadvantages, so let’s talk about the benefits of underclocking your CPU, there are many advantages for it like, it reduces the power consumption of your CPU, if you are using your computer for just browsing and watching through the internet this is good since it lowers the power that it uses, good for conserving electricity. It also reduces heat output, if you have a stock fan for your computer and bad airflow, this can help your PC or Laptop temperature keep low, reducing the need for high performance cooling and good airflow. This can also help your CPU to extend its life since the heat for the CPU is less, and it uses low voltage the lifespan of your CPU will extend. Also, if you have bad airflow and your CPU reaches high temperature making your system unstable, underclocking is good since it will make your system improve its stability since you will have more lower temperature than you used to. Only underclock your CPU if you are using your PC for light activities on your system and if you want to make your CPU life longer. Don’t underclock if you are using your CPU for heavy games and if you are rendering heavy projects.

Underclocking can reduce heat and power consumption, but it may affect performance. If you’re not running heavy tasks, it could be worth trying to reduce your system’s load. Have you considered using CPU throttling to optimize?
