Hi, do you think we should have AI do more IT jobs, or do you think people should keep doing them?

Silly question. Technically, AI cannot bill you per hour so there is some incentive to let it do more work.

Should we let computers do something that was done by people 20 years ago?

That all depends on who wrote the AI in the First Place

Back in the day you would think pack up the system return it for a refund as you are too stupid to be anywhere near any sort of computer because the desktop would not turn on when they had a power outage.
Having a poorly written AI say that to a end user would not be a great idea.
Another description of some End Users was PICNIC which stood fro Problem in Chair Not In Computer again not something you want to tell a end user particularly if they are the boss it just doesn’t go down too well even if it is perfectly true.
Then there is the problem of who is hosting the AI the company you work for certainly doesn’t want to host it if it does any of the above or worse and if it’s not the company who is hosting it what happens the all the output from it and who owns it? Do you have any Privacy Laws in the country where you are as that could be a nightmare to deal with if you are not hosting the AI and have no control over what happens tot he output of it.
The problem with what I know AI to be which is Artificial Insemination but I grew up on a sheep farm is none of those questions have answers just the same as if a Microsoft OS breaks and lets data out it’s not Microsoft’s Fault that is in the license agreement and you have to carry the can for Microsoft’s shortcomings or errors which they may have known of since Windows 3.1 and done nothing to fix it and as you can not dig around in the source code and fix things you find you carry the can for MS’s shortcomings again part of the License Agreement you agree to before you can fully load the OS.
Not really possible to answer your question with any authority but if this helps George Jettson was complaining in one episode of the Jetsons that his boss was a slave driver as he had to push the button 3 times today and that was working with a fully automated AI Controlled system though back then they had no idea what AI was they just believed one day computers would do everything and it would be perfect.

The question of whether we should let AI take over IT jobs is complex, and it doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. On one hand, AI can automate repetitive tasks, boost productivity, and reduce human error—making it a valuable tool in the IT industry. From network monitoring to data analysis, AI can handle tasks that would take humans much longer to complete.
However, allowing AI to fully take over IT jobs can lead to job displacement and a potential loss of human oversight in critical areas. It’s not about replacing humans, but rather augmenting their capabilities. For example, AI tools can assist IT professionals in tasks like email extraction or data parsing.
Ultimately, the goal should be a balanced approach—leveraging AI to handle the heavy lifting while humans take charge of decision-making, creativity, and innovation. Instead of fearing AI, we should focus on how to collaborate with it effectively to enhance IT roles, not eliminate them.
