Shutdown issues on NT wk

By Tejota ·
I have a laptop with NT4.0 spk 6. I work out of my home so I am not on the Domain at the office. When I log in to my laptop it takes too long for it to tell me there is no domain controller available. How can I adjust the timeout for the windows it doesn't take 3 or 4 minutes before it finally puts me to the desktop. The same thing happens when logging off. It hangs for about 3 or 4 minutes before it finally logs off. I assume it is broadcasting, looking for the PDC to disconnect or something. But I want to limit the timeout so it stops quicker.

If you are using a PCMCIA card NIC, remove it when you are not logging on to the network.

Use a LOCAL user instead of a DOMAIN user to log onto the laptop. (It might need to be in the Administrators Group to get to your files)
Make sure that you don't have any DOMAIN resources mapped that the machine is trying to re-map (drives, printers, etc.)

What I did was this:

Create a local user. Set the new user's roaming profile path to the location of your domain user's profile (c:\winnt\profiles\whatever). This way, your settings and everything stay the same between the two users, and you don't have it trying to log onto the domain or looking for a DHCP address.

Another option is to setup a "no network" hardware profile and boot that one when not connected to the office LAN
