Shutdown problem

By computerusageco ·
Have upgraded computer from Win98 to WinXP Home. Win98 would not turn computer off at shutdown. Upgrade looks great except the "turn computer off" still exist with WinXP. Exerything closes out fine but the message is displayed "It is now safe to turn computer off".

So it did the same thing with win 98? It would close all the programs, log you off, and sit at the screen saying it's ok to turn off your computer?

Take a look here ...

Hi.
Try flashing the BIOS with a newer version. It may take care of the problem. You may also want to load the BIOS and setup defaults in the BIOS setup if the flash doesn't take care of it on it's own.

Cheers!

What you want to do is a Power Management feature. Your computer's BIOS must be capable of power management and it must be enabled in BIOS.

Next you must enable the Advance Power Management features of Windows. Go to Control Panel | Power Options | APM tab. Check the box to enable Advanced Power Management support.

Hope this helps.
