My pc has been shutting down and rebooting every 2hrs. Has caused my admin tools reset. Has shutdown av protect, and reset faults on my za firewall. Have cleaned my fans which really not that dirty. Had sp2 installed when it came out, and has been functioning prop since.Have run all kinds of virus and worm scans and found nothing. Shut down auto startup also. Running amd 1.25mhz w/256mb ram.....So confusing......Help!!!!!!!!!!

Several Possibilities

by Plynn In reply to shutdown & reboot

Are you saying that the problem with the reboot is causing the admin & za firewall to reset & the AV to turn off? If so, you most likely have a worm or trojan. Go here to find out: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/promotions/pestscan/pestscan_01165.jsp?lid=2home_pestscan

Another possibility - if you just got on DSL - is that some DSL's do not work with ZA (my girlfriends daughter had that problem) & you will have to remove it off your system.

A remote possibility is that your power supply may be going bad. You may have to replace it.

If any of these answers fix your problem, please let everyone know, in case they have the same thing happen.

system board

by pcbuddy In reply to shutdown & reboot

8 out 10 times i have exprienced that sort of thing, its been either the power supply and system board.most likely the system brd...have you visually checked these parts and looked for any strange structure in these parts. you might also want to look up for hints and tips on your computer manufacturer website.

PC Randomly Reboots

by gritacco In reply to system board

Over the last 3 months I have had two PC's have problems, one where the system just stopped booting up and the other where it would run for a while and then just reboot itself. I changed the Lithieum battery in both, thinking it was CMOS where I have seen this happen before, but this did not fix the problem. The one that would not bootup turned out to be the mother board. The one that keeps rebooting I have my suspicion it is the mother board.
